    • The Aymara people have historically resided in the Altiplano region in modern day Peru and Bolivia and are known for their longstanding tradition of woven goods. Remnants of woven objects date as far back as 1300 bce. The designs woven into the garments are believed to reflect the topography of the region. Their weaves can be made so tightly as to create waterproof garments, and yet they can also be dense and supple, exhibiting a fine drape. Fabrics have long been used for both functional and spiritual purposes and each has its own name, purpose and power associated with it.
