    • Part of the 19th century Meiji Reformation in Japan was aimed at educating and keeping the general populace informed, leading to the creation of daily newspapers. Tokyo Nichi Nichi Shinbun was one of the first to also include prints illustrating the most dramatic headlines, created by Utagawa Yoshiiku (1833-1904). From fires to fights to humorous stories, the engaging illustrations were well received and much loved by the people.
