我们降落在Xiamen，前往Cherry的家乡，开车大约两个小时。旅行一个多小时以外，我们到达了一个专门从事Han Bai Yu Stone -with Jade的雕刻工作室。

汉·拜（Han bai Yu）可以被认为是中国从印度的马克拉纳大理石（Makrana Marble），但两者确实不同。Makrana像牛奶一样不透明。汉·白（Han Bai Yu）像冰一样半透明。然而，两者都受到雕刻家的摆布，他们的工作是在无生命中找到生活。

雕刻在工作室were conspicuously absent. All had returned to their villages for the Chinese New Year. But the statues remained in various states of completion. I have never seen such extraordinary, detailed carving anywhere in the world. The statues seemed to come alive. Their presence was undeniable. I became lost in their expressions, which appeared to change instead of being locked in stone. “It feels like they want to talk,” I said to Cherry at one point. “Anything is possible,” she replied. “It’s China.”
